The Little Book of
Words was written by me in literally 3 days in 1997.
I had run my company Communication Improvements Ltd for 17
years, and sold it in 1991, and during all that time, I had
never been able to put down the principles clearly on paper
in a logical sequence. Sounds crazy for someone who was
supposed to be teaching communication! but it seemed there
were always so many ways to present it. Then in 1997 long
after I had sold the company I read an article in the Daily
Telegraph. It said "A study by Gallup for the Institute of
the Future published yesterday (23.6.97), found the average
middle management executive sends or receives 178 messages each
day"
I thought, 'nothing has changed, communication is getting
worse'. I sat down and had completed the layout and format
of the book in literally 3 days. So simple was it, I chose
to publish it myself and then proceeded to sell a couple of
thousand copies to a small number of multinational
companies, some of whom were old clients. I then moved on
to other things. However the book, which is still
available, via Amazon, or direct from me, is as true to
today as it ever was. A diagrammatic form of the book is
shown on the page 'Fundamental Principles of
Communication'.
